If scuba diving or at the very least, snorkeling is your cup of tea, then chances are you would have also invested in a good quality waterproof camera (assuming you do have the necessary shutterbug skills to go along with your other wet, wet passion, of course) – either that, or a DSLR with an expensive underwater housing. Well, Samsung intends to cater to those who are just starting out on this underwater photography thing with their latest release – the Samsung W200.

PostHeaderIcon Samsung Galaxy Indulge joins the 4G LTE family

Samsung intends to expand their Galaxy (range of phones, that is) with the latest addition, the Samsung Galaxy Indulge. It is rather interesting to note that this latest release will not arrive on any of the big four carriers, but rather, will be made available to MetroPCS, one of the smaller players over in the US. Still, that doesn’t detract from the fact that the Galaxy Indulge is one of the world’s first commercially available 4G LTE enabled Android smartphone.

Samsung has taken the opportunity to introduce a new Blu-ray player and companion box enabling Google TV this CES in conjunction with their smart TV product offerings. PostHeaderIcon Samsung NX11 being prepped for release

Samsung is certainly making some headway when it comes to the world of digital cameras, and the NX11 is no exception. After all, the Samsung NX11 holds one of a feature set that is not too different from Samsung’s first mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, the NX10, and to add to its advantage, it is compatible with the new i-Function lens which was rolled out to go along with the NX100, also from Samsung. As for the NX11, this puppy will come complete with an 18-55mm i-Function lens, alongside a couple of new i-Function lenses, a 20mm pancake and a 20-50mm zoom silver color lens. PostHeaderIcon Samsung Portable X-ray Machine

I remember seeing that Will Smith movie The Pursuit of Happyness where he is trying to sell a bone density scanner.

Clearly, he was in the wrong business, because I can’t remember the last time I had my bones checked out by a bone density scanner. I believe that the main character is quoted as saying that it gave a readout twice as blurry as an X-ray. However, Samsung is planning to get in the mobile X-ray business with this portable X-ray detector.

PostHeaderIcon Samsung has new firmware for NX10 camera

Samsung isn’t famous yet when it comes to digital cameras, but that doesn’t mean the South Korean consumer electronics giant isn’t trying its level best to break into the market. PostHeaderIcon Sprint aims to change things with Samsung Transform

The Android operating system has really taken off in a big way, and it has clearly proved to the world that not everyone wants a closed system like Apple’s iOS platform, where an open-ended one like Android will still be able to do well. The deluge and phenomenal growth of Android-powered smartphones has certainly been something that nobody (except maybe for Google) expected, but we’re all the happier since stiff competition does benefit consumers in the end most of the time as companies will have to be on their toes to deliver the best. Sprint has sided with the Android platform yet again with their latest smartphone, the Samsung Transform. PostHeaderIcon Samsung ST100 and ST600 cams take DualView screens to the high end

Cellphones with front-facing cameras might be all the rage right now, but Samsung continues to lead the field of cameras with front-facing screens — it’s bringing its total count of DualView cameras to six with the new flagship ST100 (pictured) and ST600. In addition to sharing a new larger 1.8-inch front screen, both cams feature the same 14.2 megapixel sensor with ISO 3200 sensitivity, a 3.5-inch rear display, and a new “jump shot” mode that uses the front screen to cue a group of people to jump and then fires off three quick snaps to capture the action. Adorable, we know. You’re also getting 720p video recording, a gesture-driven touchscreen interface, and smart face recognition that can recognize up to six manually chosen people and 14 automatically registered people. The big difference between the two is the lens — the $329 ST600 sports a protruding 5x wide angle optical zoom lens, while the $349 ST100 slims things down with a new 5x internal optical zoom. No exact word on ship dates yet, but you’ll be able to pick both of these up in a variety of metallic colors when they do hit — joy. PR after the break.

PostHeaderIcon Samsung’s Epic 4G for Sprint looks to score FCC approval

Does this outline of a really awesome phone ring a bell for you? No? Well, let us toss you a hint: it’s from Samsung, and it’s got WiMAX. That’s right — what you’re looking at is a Sammy bearing model number SPH-D700, which we believe to be the phone you know better as the Epic 4G for Sprint. The test report identifies the D700 as a “Cellular/PCS CDMA/EvDO Phone with Bluetooth, WLAN, and WiMAX,” so unless Samsung’s got another 4G phone for Sprint waiting in the wings, that sounds like pretty damning evidence to us — especially considering that the ID label document’s outline basically matches up with the real device. Interestingly, Sprint has yet to commit to a release date for the Epic, which leads us to wonder whether it was waiting for this to happen… let’s hope.

PostHeaderIcon Samsung’s new plasmas will do 3D for much cheaper, maybe under $1,000?

Looks like Samsung’s 3D Blu-ray players aren’t the only ones coming in cheaper versions, as it’s unveiled the new 680 Series and 490 Series plasma HDTVs. Both were shown off in Korea yesterday, though the US website only features a product page for the 50-inch PN50C680 so far, showing off its 1080p specs and DLNA access. You will give up a few features from higher end plasmas, which add picture-in-picture, widgets, a higher contrast ratio and slimmer designs to the mix. The PN50C490′s situation is a bit murkier, but FlatpanelsHD reports it will be the first 720p 3DTV of the current generation. With current series 4 plasmas retailing for around $720, it could also be the first flat 3D set to crack (or at least approach) the $1,000 barrier — if you’re willing to miss out on the extra pixels. PostHeaderIcon Samsung ships 1TB Spinpoint MT2 2.5-inch hard drive, but it won’t fit in your laptop

So, we’ve good news and bad news. Given that we aren’t accepting votes for which you’ll be fed first, we’ll go ahead and extol the virtues of cramming a full terabyte of space into a 2.5-inch form factor. Not that this feat hasn’t been accomplished before, but the 2.5-inch 1TB HDD realm could certainly use the competition. Now, the rough part — Samsung‘s Spinpoint MT2 boasts a 12.5mm height, which is 3mm too high for your existing laptop. Unless, of course, you’re rocking one of those otherworldly Clevo machines with enough space for a Karmann Ghia in there. There’s also the fact that it’s humming along at just 5,400RPM and rocks just 8MB of buffer memory, meaning that this one’s entirely more likely to find a home within a portable HDD case than inside of Apple’s next MacBook Air. Oh, and there’s no price being made public, but honestly, we’re sort of glad Sammy didn’t bother teasing us. Read the rest of this entry »

PostHeaderIcon Apple’s Steve Jobs: ‘no one’s going to buy’ a big phone

Digg this! In response to a question at its press conference today about whether Apple could’ve done anything to avoid its antenna issues with the iPhone 4, Steve took the opportunity to rip on bigger rivals, saying that making a phone so big “you can’t get your hand around it” helps, but that “no one’s going to buy that.” We’re assuming he’s likely talking about the latest crop of 4-, 4.3- and 5-inch phones that include the Galaxy S series, the EVO 4G, Droid X, and Dell Streak, even going so far as to call them “Hummers” (we take it you don’t ever drive a Hummer, Steve?). Though ripping on the competition is to be expected, perhaps the more interesting takeaway here is that we can’t realistically expect an iPhone much bigger than the 3.5-inch display they use today — presumably that’ll all be reserved for iPad territory going forward. We personally don’t mind something with a little more screen real estate — but hey, maybe humans need to go through a few more cycles of evolutionary hand enlargement before Cupertino’s willing to capitulate.
