Satarii Star has its eye on you
Do you use your iPhone often for Facetime? Well, if you’re one of the select few who does so, then you might want to check out what the Satarii Star is capable of doing. This unique device will definitely need your iPhone to remain docked within, where it can swivel around to track your movement. To make things more flexible, it allows you to dock your iPhone in either portrait or landscape mode, literally allowing you to position it where you want it. As for the second part of this setup, it comprises of a small tracking device that allows you to clip onto the subject. The tracking device will communicate with the base within a 25 foot radius, where the base can rotate up to 180 degress, aiming at the tracker always. No idea on when it will be released commercially and for how much, since this is still part of an in-development project from a team of California-based designers.

FaceTime to use e-mail to make iPod touch, iPad calls
Apple is changing the way FaceTime works to support a camera-equipped iPod touch and possibly the iPad as well, escaped details show. Rather than require a phone number as on the iPhone 4, it will use one or more e-mail accounts attached to an Apple ID, which in turn will be linked to the device. iPod touch FaceTime calling to be based on email addresses?
We’ve been assuming that the next iPod touch will get in on Apple’s FaceTime video-calling action, but the open question has been how calls will actually be initiated without phone numbers, and BGR’s saying it has the scoop: it’s going to be based on email addresses. Registering an email address with the touch and FaceTime will let people videocall you using that address, but apparently calling an iPhone user will still involve knowing their phone number, which is a little odd — but BGR believes the email-based system will extended to the phone eventually as well. ZVRS to support live sign language translation via iPhone 4′s FaceTime for calls between deaf and hearing users
While SMS and mobile email are great, they still can’t match the emotion, interaction, and intonation of a live conversation with someone — that’s why our phones still ship with microphones and speakers, apparently. Of course, this is much more difficult when one of the parties is deaf or hard of hearing, which is where video relay services come in. With the help of a videophone or your computer’s webcam, you can make a call with a live translator, who speaks your signed ramblings out loud to the hearing person on the other end. Of course you’re usually stuck at a desk when doing this, but now ZVRS is going to be supporting calls made from the iPhone 4 over FaceTime. It might not be quite as sexy as Apple’s goosebump-raising iPhone 4 commercial, since the phone obviously makes two-way sign language calls possible, but if the person on the other end doesn’t have an iPhone 4 or doesn’t know sign language, ZVRS seems like the next best thing. FaceTime video call works beautifully on airplane’s in-flight WiFi (video)
Yeah, seriously. While Aircell’s Gogo in-flight WiFi service has been blocking VoIP calling services (Skype being the most obvious example) from day one, it’s apparently not throwing the same brick wall in the face of Apple’s new standard. Our good pals over at TUAW managed to record a (relatively) solid two minute FaceTime conversation with an iPhone 4 owner, and only after you realize that said owner is a few thousand feet above the Earth’s surface does this all become a lot more interesting. We know for a fact that certain iPhone 4 owners have had difficulty with FaceTime conversations when using highly firewalled access points (like those found in hotels and corporate offices), but it seems as if seat 16A is cleared for transmission. New iPod Touch Won’t Have 5MP Camera, 3.2MP Instead
Yesterday, we brought you two different reports about the next member of the iPod Touch lineage. Rumors were heating up that the new device, which is supposed to be revealed this September, would feature a 5MP camera on the back, along with other hit features like FaceTime capability (thanks to a front-facing camera), and HD video recording.
