News about Apple:
So wait…who’s suing who?
If you’re like any of us here at TalkAndroid you’re probably a little confused about who’s suing who. Nokia’s suing Apple, who’s being sued by Kodak, who also sued LG, who was also sued by Nokia, and it’s just a giant mess. Well, if you’re one of those visual learner types have we got the news for you. Matt Brian decided a little while ago that he would make a chart to show you who is suing who. It’s not as messy as you think (he’s pretty good). It’s great if you want a better understanding on what is exactly going on in the Judicial World of Android. Hit the break to see it.
Apple to Preview Cloud Service in June @ WWDC?
Rumours are floating around that Apple will preview its cloud service as early as June at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco. Three people briefed on Apple’s private talks that didn’t want to be named told BusinessWeek that Apple will be able to scan customers’ digital music libraries in iTunes and quickly mirror their collections on its own servers. If the sound quality of a particular song on a user’s hard drive isn’t good enough, Apple will be able to replace it with a higher-quality version.
Latest Technology News

That`s not to say Apple hasn`t been making waves, the online community as well as publishers and media developers have been in uproar over Apple`s plans to charge a thirty percent royalty on all digital content sold through iTunes. Many see this move as destroying the market by reducing the margins beyond the point where they are profitable for publishers.

BlindType vows to autocorrect all wrongs with your iPhone or Android virtual keyboard (video)
Remember that episode of The Simpsons where Homer gets too fat to be able to dial a number? Well, he wouldn’t have had that problem had BlindType been around. This soft keyboard is described by its makers as being extremely resilient to inaccurate input and looking at the demo video after the break, you kinda have to agree — it seems to have a pretty kickass predictive algorithm. Aside from that, the keyboard also dynamically adjusts to wherever and however you choose to type, meaning its size and orientation track along to your input, which goes some way to justifying the somewhat odd name (it’s meant for blind operation, not blind people). Text can be inserted without the keyboard even being on screen, while spaces are automatically added at pauses in your typing. BlindType should be coming to Android and iOS devices some time in the near future.
iPhone headed for T-Mobile USA in Q3?
We hear so many iPhone-Verizon-tomorrow-OMG rumors that our nation’s brave also-ran carriers hardly get a word in edgewise. While Sprint remains a total longshot, T-Mobile USA is an interesting proposition for the mere fact that it’s a GSM network, though its 1700 / 2100 3G network remains ostensibly incompatible with the iPhone 4′s existing radio. According to Cult of Mac, a “highly placed source” at T-Mobile let it slip that they’ve got an 80 percent chance of getting the iPhone in Q3. Now, that’s an oddly specific number, and we have no idea what it’s contingent on, or how much exactly this source knows. Basically, we don’t know a lot here. Of course, the biggest evidence of this possible T-Mobile coup remains the statement from Deutsche Telekom’s CEO in March, saying that the USA branch is hoping to get the iPhone later this year. We really don’t know who or what to believe, but we do know one thing: if Apple decides to sell a T-Mobile USA iPhone, there’s an 80+ percent chance it will tell everybody. Skype updated for iOS 4, background VoIP is a go
Well, it’s about time. Touted back in March as one of the pillar apps to benefit from the new multitasking API, Skype has finally been updated to iOS 4 compatibility. We’re seeing crisper, more retina display-friendly graphics and, more importantly, background VoIP (not for iPhone 3G, naturally). A notification window will pop up when you’re called or messaged, and you can use other apps while on the line chatting to international friends at reduced rates. Even on the lock screen, if you receive a call, sliding to unlock will take you immediately into the call. Video chat still isn’t here — a darn shame given the lack of other options now — but now you’ve got even more of a reason to rack up those rollover minutes on AT&T’s voice plan. Download away!
Apple Posts Record Quarterly Profits Despite iPhone 4 Problems
Apple shows Nokia’s N97 Mini can be force choked, too (video)
Nokia claims it always prioritizes antenna performance over physical design, and we’ll take them at their word, but that apparently didn’t exempt one Espoo handset from Apple’s grip of doom. Here’s the Nokia N97 Mini going down for the count, from a full seven bars to two. Of course, Apple doesn’t mention whether calls or data drop when the handset’s held this way. Video after the break.
Handy Light for iPhone’s dirty little secret: tethering (video)
You may ask yourself, why on earth would anyone pay 99 cents for an iPhone app whose sole purpose is to flash bright, solid colors? We certainly wouldn’t recommend it, but Handy Light has a great little Easter egg that undoubtedly doesn’t jive with the folks at Cupertino HQ. Like Nullriver’s Netshare app before it, this little piece of software allows for SOCKS proxy tethering, without having to sign up for AT&T’s tethering plan. Instructions available via the video below, and if you’re looking to pick up the app yourself, better hurry — we can’t imagine Apple will let this one stay in the store for very much longer. Apple posts record $3.25b profit in first full quarter of iPad sales, says more ‘amazing products’ coming this year
Apple just posted up its third quarter earnings — its first full quarter selling the iPad — and, well, it’s raining cash in Cupertino. The company posted a record profit of $3.35b on record revenues of $15.7b, which is up from $1.83b and $9.73b from a year ago. The big stat? Apple sold 3.27 million iPads, nearly matching the 3.47 million Macs sold — and Mac sales were up 33 percent from a year ago to set a new quarterly record. Yeah, damn. iPhone sales — including the first few weeks of the iPhone 4 — were up 61 percent from a year ago to 8.4 million, and the iPod continued its slow decline, down eight percent to 9.41 million units sold. Over half of the Apple’s sales — 52 percent — were international, and Jobs is quoted saying “we have amazing new products still to come this year.” Not a bad way to head into back-to-school and the holidays, we suppose — we’ve got a feeling those iPad numbers are just going to go up. The conference call to discuss all this is at 5pm ET, we’ll be covering it live right here.
